Smithsonian's Discovery Theater - Preschool events for Fall

Kid activities Washington DC and Maryland

Discovery Theater at the Smithsonian

Washington DC

Discovery Theater hosts live performances that showcase the rich diversity of our region and our world. Each season the Smithsonian Institution uses it's resources  to present relevant, culturally accurate entertaining programs for children. Discovery Theater provides an opportunity for children, families and schools to experience heritage, science and culture in a memorable way.  Musical performances have included the very popular children's band Rocknoceros and Billy Jonas (Parent's Choice Gold and a First Place/Gold from AFIM-American Federation of Independent Musicians).  Mr. Jonas' videos have earned critical acclaim including Parents Choice Awards and a New York Times "Best" listing.  Children have also been enthralled with puppet shows like Galapagos George, and the Japanese dance show was a sensation during the Cherry Blossom Festival.  One of the most popular shows is the "Hip Hop Science Guy," and these tickets sell out quickly.  Shows are performed on the Lower Third floor of the Ripley Center next door to the Smithsonian Red Castle.  They are about 45 - 60 minutes in length.

Ticket prices generally range $6-$8
with some free shows for special events
and discounts for members.

Be aware that schools often take classes on field trips to the theater during the week.
Weekend shows are less crowded.
Summer shows just concluded and the new season will begin September 27.
